See you soon,
Incredibly, it is almost time for the Fabulous Places Summer Market at Derby Roundhouse, for those of you who are not familiar with these events they are truly beautiful and we love being one of Deb’s stallholders because it is such a lovely day out for everyone who is involved or visits. Just some of the prettiness includes obviously cake, fresh flowers, gifts, bakeries, interior shops, stationary to name but a few however its that time when we need to start preparing the list of which cakes we are going to take with us, its always such a difficult one because everyone has their favourites so for this one I have come up with a different idea and if you guys could please give me heads up of any reservations because all these options will be available in Friday cake club and some may just be one tray baked so potentially some may be running low if not sold out prior to Sunday, if I know your reservations in advance I can in turn bake more of that variety to avoid disappointment so here’s my idea; I am going to bake each variety of my much loved brownies so GF triple chocolate brownie, GF rolo brownie, GF after eight brownie, GF nutella brownie, GF peanut M & M brownie, GF salted caramel brownie, GF toblerone brownie, GF/DF chocolate orange brownie, GF/DF chocolate hazelnut brownie, GF/DF triple chocolate brownie plus the new vegan & GF chocolate pecan brownie. In addition to this I am also mindful how you guys also love my free from cakes so hopefully it maybe a sunny day I love using seasonal ingredients I am planning on taking GF rhubarb & custard cakes, my award winning GF/DF lime & coconut cake and GF lemon curd cakes…So what do you think? For my own self indulgence I will also be creating some of my Mars & Malteser slice which contains most of the other allergens I try to exclude for you guys however my reward will be one of these naughties….There is so much more I could bake however my table is just 3 metres but we the additional side table where we squeeze in another bits & bobs crate, this is when there are just 1 or 2 of a variety remaining, obviously those of you who visit us can have a little update about the tearoom development and all the bits going on behind the scenes however unfortunately as much as we hoped to be open later this year there is so so much involved with the building, with the additional planning application and trying to coordinating everything whilst not feeling like its just one big rush, we want this to be perfect, brilliant and beautiful as we only get one chance to do it right and so to help keep me sane its ready when its ready however we are hoping to be open in Spring 2018 but as always we will keep you guys up to date with its development and progress
See you soon,
As the kitchen is toasty warm after having the ovens kicking out heat for 4 hours I decided to update my personal blog about the development, hurdles and news of creating the tearoom. I started back in October 2016 and is a fabulous reference to see how far we have come and still how so far we have to go to create the dream however because we are so buried in everything I have just realised that today is All Mine Cakes 4th birthday, from when I launched my little cake baking business with the support of Carmen, Adrian, Anne and John at Newfield Iceream Parlour & Café. I have so much to thank them for, some of you know the story of how the business developed but it was all down having a Saturday job with them whilst I was still nursing in the NHS and a conversation about an Easter Simnel cake. As my family love the fruity marzipan cake I was saying about how I had made one as I have been baking for years, making my own recipes and I was asked to make one for them, not long afterwards I received a phone call one evening whilst Si was away on a foreign business trip asking to bake cakes for their business and so the huge opportunity was given for me to transform my life long daydream into a reality and the rest is history. The business has grown beyond my wildest dreams, I simply hoped to bake great cakes and for people to enjoy them, now to be typing this saying I am a multi-award winning business who is also a Great Taste Food producer, who specialises in gluten free and free from cakes enabling those of you with food allergies, intolerances or life style choices to enjoy a delicious treat whilst supplying 5 awesome local businesses and trying to create my own tearoom in the most beautiful location is unbelievable, to have fallen in love with a VW camper van called Little Pudding, to have the support and love from my hubby, friends, family, my physio crew and you guys is incredible, the name is known throughout the UK and I send postal orders all over the country….To whatever the time line for the tearoom which is still under development because there is so much stuff behind the scenes, I have had to say to myself that it will be ready when its ready because when we open we need to be ready to hit the ground running and hopefully never stop! The whole process at times can be a little over whelming, at the moment it remains still me and Si planning and co-ordinating from the All Mine Cakes perspective but I am lining the troops ready to go, go, go when its time, from all the wholesalers, products and ingredients which will be in there, to recruiting the team, to sourcing pretty tables and chairs, to ensuring I conform with environmental health, building regulations, HR and doing it properly, no cutting of corners or fudging it, I have the interior design within my mind and its finding the decoration which reflects me and the brand yet being mindful you are on a budget and need a contingency fund to support the business within the first year, to be able to ensure you can pay your staff and wholesalers because this is one big unknown and all this whilst running the business however I promise you whenever it may open, be it later this year or Spring 2018 it will be worth the wait and simply the most beautiful place to enjoy delicious food, cake and refreshments, I wish I could share everything with you however that would spoil the surprise! Happy Birthday All Mine Cakes and a huge thank you to everyone because without your support this not so little adventure wouldn’t be where we are today and to whatever magic the future holds x
Very excitingly we recently announced that we had been granted planning permission to convert a fishing lodge based in Maythorne, just outside the historical town of Southwell, Nottinghamshire into a multi-award tearoom. My plan is to keep everyone updated with its progress via blog posts on my website and day-to-day happens via my social media pages. As I said on my latest blog we are absolutely overwhelmed by your amazing support and excitement for our adventure and as I have said numerous times over the years this doesn’t work without you guys!! With this in mind, I have been asked several questions and had numerous enquiries for job applications, as the timeline for opening is potentially late Summer to early Autumn 2017, at this time we can’t be more specific but I have promised many people we will keep you updated with its progess. I am not in a position to employ staff at the moment but due to such interest you can register your interest, up load your CV in absolute confidentiality and tell me about yourself we have added an email address of email@example.com, I have my IT tech support currently creating another header on my website which will create a new page and have an automatic link to this email address but wanted to just let you know of this address.
This is one heck of a roller coaster ride, thankfully my hubby is keeping me calm and holding my sweaty palm as we overcome each element of the build. I’m keeping a private blog diary so I can look back in the future and remember what was involved, the hurdles, the elations, the problem solving and people are already trying to visit the tearoom, on the 24th April I was walking the girls down the lane towards the fields and they pulled over asking "Do you know where All Mine Cakes tearoom is?", how to feel giddy, excited, frightened and shocked all at the same time because I have to keep telling myself, this is really happening!! My main challenge is trying to run the business with baking and everyday stuff whilst writing numerous emails, having meetings, trying to see up wholesale contracts and ensuring I adhere to all regulations involved with the building construction, layout and staff employment legislation but we are learning, slowly but surely, often my brain is fried but the sense of satisfaction and achievement as another thing ticked off the list but another 10 are added however once everything is done I will be able to stand back proudly and say “we did that!”. You guys will know that I wear my heart on my sleeve however this simply a passion to achieve a life long dream and you guys are on this journey with me and again we say a huge thank you for your support x x
So recently we shared the amazing but pooh your pants news that All Mine Cakes is opening a tearoom in a village just Southwell, we were quiet with its location in the beginning simply for the local residents to find out from ourselves instead of just posting a picture on social media of the building in a “ta da” style of a way because where it is located is a sleepy hamlet just outside Southwell and we hoped for the support of the local community and to our knowledge everybody is now aware so we can now share more information with you guys as so many people were asking about it at the Fabulous Places Spring Fair at Beeston.
The tearoom is going to be within a fishing lodge situated by one of the fishing lakes at Maythorne, just outside Southwell along the lower Kirklington Road and can be accessed via the Southwell trail by foot whilst either having a stroll to settle the baby or walking the dog, riding your bike or on a club run. The trail runs from Southwell by the Final Whistle pub all the way along to Bilsthorpe and beyond, you can divert at Maythorne and head left towards Starkey’s fruit orchards to loop back into town or choose right to walk along the river back to the pub car park (we will creating little maps to help you find you route)…The lodge was built 25 years ago and for several years I have day dreamed about opening it as a tearoom, every time I walked past it I was looking at it longingly and as the All Mine Cakes business has grown my daydream became more of a passion and so one day asked its owner…What do you think to opening a tearoom in the fishing lodge? And to cut a very long story short of traffic survey’s, tomography, pedestrian survey’s, working out costing, secretly confiding in a our nearest friends and family we managed to keep it a secret until our planning application was approved, all the local businesses I supply wholesale cakes to were informed of our plans at point of the planning application being submitted because their support and selling All Mine Cakes has helped grow the business to enable this development to happen. From a business perspective I will continue to supply Gonalston Farm Shop, Newfield Ice cream Parlour, Topiary tearoom, The Real Milk Company and Country Home Interiors whilst still be part of events such as Fabulous Places, Southwell Ploughing Match and the Bramley Apple Festival.
The fishing lodge has such huge potential! As it’s a fishing lodge it has so many windows which creates a really light building, we are going have large doors onto the decking area whereby you can enjoy the sunshine whilst watching the ducks and other beautiful wildlife but also have awnings to provide shade in the summer or shelter on a rainy day, fisher men and women will still be able to fish (it costs £5.00 per day for anyone who may like fishing), fury 4 legged friends will also be welcome and have a doggy treat after a walk, families are welcome and after asking many new mums about breast feeding in public and the reaction of others, there is even a little nursing room, should you choose or prefer to have privacy whilst feeding? There will simply be a big comfy chair, a nice quiet space with no noisy hand dryers which will also have baby changing facilities and an little drawer or cupboard of emergency nappies, wipes, bags etc. Regarding the menu, the plan is to be able to serve the choice of gluten free, dairy free and other free from including those following the fodmap diet, this is my aim but there may be many things I have to learn about running a professional kitchen however my hope is the chefs and catering team members will share my passion, enthusiasm and vision because I want everyone who visits the tearoom to be included, not isolated, to be able to choose from the same menu, not worry about cross-contamination and forget about their food allergies whilst enjoying delicious food created with love, passion and creativity!
We are sourcing our ingredients locally and seasonal where possible from within Nottinghamshire and supporting the businesses who have supported me, our meat will be from Gonalston Farm Shop, the ice cream from The Real Milk Company, some of the soft drinks from Starkey’s and the coffee is from 200 degrees, a small Nottingham roaster. An snap shot of the menu is to including proper pulled pork cooked on the big green egg served in a ciabatta with the most delicious coleslaw and homemade bramley apple sauce? Maybe you prefer proper quality cooked breakfast or simply bacon or sausage butty with Stokes sauces? Or a delicious Ploughman’s lunch with hand picked cheese selection, chutneys, Alderton Ham or a homemade sausage roll and scotch egg? Maybe you prefer a wedge of toasted sourdough with smashed avocado, roasted vine tomato’s, balsamic glaze with perhaps a poached free range egg? I hope you are getting a feel for the style? There is so much we can create, I have my own little library full of free from cook books, the menu will simply be the choice of 5-6 options plus a couple of specials (which changes maybe fortnightly depending on the season and how many of you guys visit daily!) and created perfectly every time. I am currently sampling lots of gluten free bread, some from local independent businesses, to the New Warburton Bakehouse range and even to the Wheat Free Bakery, I have also discovered a couple of artisan gluten free bakeries in London which I will be contacting to acquire some gluten free bread samples, there is much investigating going into sourcing the best free from goods, I have even thought about having a dabble myself.
For those of you who haven’t seen our Facebook post sharing the location and view from the building, I hope you agree that it’s beautiful? We are having an outside seating area which will look out over the water but also have shelter with either an awning or parasols, I haven’t investigated this fully yet as I am sure you can appreciate there are many things I have been researching in between the baking and running the businesses. I have to say thank you for your amazing reaction to the tearoom announcement, you secretly hope that you guys will be as excited as us however you have surpassed our hopes, we have had people knocking on the door, people trying to book tables for the opening day, people asking for jobs, offers of help with anything and everything and such positivity to the business development so genuinely a heart felt thank you because I am silly petrified, with sweaty hands yet a giddy feeling in my tummy, one of the important things is to create an amazing team within the tearoom, those who share my passion for food, have an attention to detail, go the extra mile on customer service whilst loving your work, I have plans on how I would love to run the business and be part of a fabulous team.
Thanks for reading x x

Spring Market 2017…
How has it come around so fast? It's very exciting to be planning our first Fabulous Places event of 2017 at Derby Roundhouse, for those of you who have never been its a truly beautiful event with the friendliest people and an aweome atmosphere, its £2.00 to get in and to be honest it’s a bargain! If you pop to the Fabulous Places website (www.fabulousplaces.co.uk) you can have a peep at the independent businesses who are involved whilst deliberating whether to visit the pop up tearoom or prosecco bar or maybe both? It just a lovely day out! Its fab for me as a business as I get to catch up with all my friends, trade cake for usually flowers and ice cream whilst getting to see you guys, have new discoverers who do the gluten free happy dance and those of you whose loyalty is amazing. For those who have visited before, we are in our usual position, second table on the left hand side of the Round house, its table number 2. You are supplied with a map and list of stallholders as you enter the event so hopefully you will be able to find us if not either ask another stall holder or maybe even call us because when there is cake involved its important. Those of you who haven’t been to the Roundhouse, there are two ways you can start to explore, either turn left as you enter into the library or walk ahead to the round room (all the loo’s are on the right) and simply follow everyone else. Ideally its always a good idea to take cash because not everyone takes card payment, myself included, however if you forget or spend out there is a cash machine on sight so its sorted so be prepared to find the perfect gift for Mother’s day, to treat yourself or simply have a mooch around. I always need to write a blog post with all the cake options available because to be honest I always get carried away however I receive so many requests I do the best I can whilst trying to cover bases for food allergies, dietary intolerances or life style choices so here we go starting with gluten free choices;
Award winning GF triple chocolate brownie
GF salted caramel brownie
GF Nutella brownie with hazelnut nibbles
GF after eight brownie
GF crème egg brownie
GF rolo caramel cakes
GF rhubarb & custard cakes
GF cornflake tart
GF lemon curd cakes
GF mint choc chip cakes
Of course we are taking the Mars & Malteser slice and think a few slices of millionaire shortbread (these are a gluten containing treat) and finally the combination of gluten and dairy free treats include;
GF/DF triple chocolate brownie
GF/DF carrot cakes
Award winning GF/DF lime & coconut cakes
As always I’m sure something else may end up being added to the menu, for whatever reason I didn’t record my cake sales from the Spring Market 2016 so I’m baking without a guide on numbers, if there is anything which tickles you fancy please, please reserve because we do sell out and the number of times people say "I will come back later" but then are disappointed because we have ran out….I already have some reservations so if you could please give me the early heads up it helps me plan the numbers, some batched I may just bake one batch simply to give the dietary option
Hopefully see you next Sunday x x
